A veteran school trustee is once again running to become Morinville’s voice for Catholic education.

Noreen Radford confirmed last week that she will seek re-election to the Greater St. Albert Catholic School board this fall as one of the board’s two Morinville ward trustees.

First elected in 2010, Radford is the current chair of the GSACRD board, having previously held that position from 2014 to 2016.

In a written statement, Radford said she is running again because this is a crucial time to advocate for continued quality Catholic education in Alberta.

“I believe that our schools provide an inclusive, welcoming, and excellent learning opportunity,” she said, and she intends to promote those values while protecting the social and emotional wellbeing of students.

Radford said she has learned much through her involvement with the board’s First Nation, Métis, and Inuit leadership committee, and believes the board has forged a strong relationship with Indigenous peoples.

“We have done a great deal of work to address the Calls to Action, but I believe that much more can be done.”

Radford said she has shown the knowledge, enthusiasm, and drive needed to make GSACRD a leader in Alberta, and that her ongoing collaborative efforts with local leaders helped keep education at the top of their agendas.

Radford said trustees have been forward-thinkers in the last year, which saw significant challenges, such as funding cuts, a draft new curriculum, and the pandemic.

“As a trustee, I have been part of a positive move forward in setting goals and priorities for our division with increased attention to community wishes,” she said.

Radford declined an offer to elaborate on any of the points raised in her written statement.

Nominations for the 2021 GSACRD trustee election are due Sept. 20.
