A Westlock-area school counselor says his skills as a listener make him a good fit for Morinville town council.

Maurice St. Denis became the latest person to enter the Morinville town council electoral race last week.

A 35-year resident of Morinville, St. Denis is a school counselor at R.F. Staples Secondary School in Westlock and chair of the Westlock Educational Scholarship Society. He has also served on the Morinville Community Recreation Facility Sponsorship Committee, the Morinville subdivision development appeal board, and the Westlock Drug Task Force.

St. Denis said his background in education, mental health, and conflict resolution could bring a unique perspective to town council. If elected, he said he would work to revitalize the town’s green spaces, create tax incentives for small businesses, and move away from social media as a way of community engagement (as it is often toxic).

St. Denis said he takes great pride in living in Morinville and hopes to be a role model for his children.

St. Denis is one of 11 people running for mayor or town councillor in Morinville as of Sept. 9. Visit www.morinville.ca/en/town-hall/election.aspx for details.
