EDMONTON — Alberta's police watchdog is investigating the fatal shooting of a crime suspect by Edmonton Police Service officers.

Edmonton police say in a release Friday that officers pursued a stolen vehicle in the city around noon.

Police say during the chase the vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle before veering into a snowbank.

When the suspect fled on foot, police say he produced a firearm and officers opened fire on him.

Police say he was fatally wounded and no officers were hurt.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says it is investigating but has not released any details.
