Two children dead after house fire in western Alberta community of Buck Lake

BRETON, Alta. — Police in western Alberta say a one-year-old boy and four-year-old girl died in a house fire earlier this week.

Breton RCMP say officers were conducting an unrelated investigation Wednesday in the area of Buck Lake, about 153 kilometres southwest of Edmonton, when they saw the burning house and called fire services.

When officers managed to enter the house, they were told two children were trapped inside.

The RCMP says the officers tried to rescue the children, but the extent of the fire stopped them from going back inside.

Police say they found the bodies when the fire was extinguished.

They did not name the children, but say they were both from Drayton Valley, Alta.
