Airdrie Rural RCMP respond to shooting

A man was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital following a shooting in Rockyview County in Southern Alberta.

Airdrie Rural RCMP arrested a man after a shooting in Rocky View County on May 14.

A Rocky View County resident was taken into custody after shooting a man at a property on May 14. 

Airdrie RCMP indicated in a press release the shooting occurred shortly before 1:14 p.m. on Saturday, when officers responded to a report of a gun shot at a Rocky View County address. 

"Upon arrival, it was determined that there had been a verbal altercation which resulted in the suspect grabbing a firearm and shooting the victim in the leg," the press release stated.

The suspect fled the scene, according to RCMP, who did not disclose the address or where in Rocky View County the shooting occurred

STARS air ambulance personnel attended and the victim was flown to a Calgary hospital where he underwent surgery. He is in stable condition.

The suspect, Nolan Ryan Wade (34), of Rocky View County, later returned to the scene and surrendered to police. He was arrested without incident and has been charged witt multiple offences, including aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, and careless use of a firearm.

"Wade was brought before a justice and has been remanded into custody," RCMP stated. "He will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on May 19, 2022."
