Westlock Elementary School and Eleanor Hall School in Clyde are both on outbreak, while R.F. Staples is on alert for COVID-19.

WESTLOCK — Two schools in the Westlock area have COVID-19 outbreaks, and one other is on alert.

On Monday afternoon, Westlock Elementary School and Eleanor Hall School in Clyde had four students positive for COVID-19, and two students tested positive at R.F. Staples.

No staff members had tested positive at that time.

At Eleanor Hall, Grades 8 and 9 have moved school online. Grade 9 was set to return to in-school learning May 10 and Grade 8 May 17, but new measures announced by premier Jason Kenney yesterday will mean that all K-12 schools will move to online learning on Friday.

All students will be returning to class May 25.

Two Eleanor Hall teachers are currently isolating.

At Westlock Elementary, 82 people are in self-isolation: 74 students, four teachers and four support staff.

Due to the limited ability to separate students by grade in high school, more people were affected by the two positive COVID-19 cases at R.F. Staples. In total, there are 139 people in isolation: 133 students, two teachers, one substitute teacher, and three support staff.

There are 54 active cases of COVID-19 in the Westlock area, out of a total of 290 cases recorded since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. Two people have died and 234 others have recovered.
