Post-secondary students are being asked to prepare for a full return to on-campus learning for the upcoming school year.
On Thursday, Alberta Minister of Advanced Education Demetrios Nicolaides said due to the pace of vaccine rollouts, Alberta students can expect to head back to campus for the fall semester.
“As we plan to transition back to in-person learning, the safety of students, staff and faculty will be our top priority. We will be working closely with Alberta Health and our chief medical officer of health, Dr. (Deena) Hinshaw, to ensure a safe return to campus in September 2021,” Nicolaides said in a statement.
Alberta’s vaccine roll-out program has been picking up speed and all Albertans over the age of 18 are expected to have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of June.
“With that in mind, I encourage all post-secondary institutions, students and families to prepare for a full return to on-campus learning this September,” Nicolaides said.
Nicolaides thanked faculty and staff of these institutions for helping to keep campuses safe and supportive for students over the past year.
“The switch to online learning has not been easy, but our staff and students have all done great work to respond to the pandemic and maintain the quality of our post-secondary system.”
