INNISFAIL – The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide at the Bluebird Motel.

The Mounties’ Media Relations Group issued a news release at about 3:30 p.m. on May 1 stating the Innisfail RCMP responded to a 911 call at about 1:30 a.m. on April 29 that a man was in “medical distress" at the Bluebird Motel.

RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott said a 38-year-old male was declared deceased on scene and the circumstances of his death were deemed suspicious.

She said the RCMP Major Crimes Unit was dispatched to the scene, and later determined the case was a homicide. Scott said May 1 Mounties stayed to probe the scene until about 6 p.m. on April 30.

She said RCMP believe the homicide is an isolated incident. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and no further details are available, said Scott, who declined to say if there were any suspects the RCMP was currently focusing on.

“We don’t usually say whether we have a suspect necessarily. We tell you when we’ve laid a charge but we wouldn’t normally say whether we have a suspect,” said Scott, who would not disclose if the deceased is a local resident or was just temporarily residing at the Bluebird Motel.

“We are still so early in this investigation that (investigators) don’t have more information,” she said. “There will be an update of course if we laid a charge or if we were looking for any public assistance in any fashion.”

If any citizen has information about this homicide, he or she is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3341. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.P3Tips.com
