For two decades, Edmonton has cherished the classic tale of a fateful night and three fateful visits to a certain Christmas-loathing curmudgeon. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, Citadel is proud to debut an new adaptation from Edmonton’s David van Belle. The nostalgia of Tom Wood’s adaptation, set in Victorian England, was at the heart of why Alberta fell in love with this holiday tradition. Now, van Belle’s new adaptation whisks us to another era of magical Christmas nostalgia: the 1950s. Taking inspiration from classic films like It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street, enjoy the gorgeous new sights of Scrooge and Marley’s Department Store and the busy city streets of a metropolis on Christmas Eve. Many of the traditions at the heart of this production remain the same. As we have for 19 years, the cast will collect food bank donations after performances to continue the spirit of generosity and transformation. Suitable for ages 6+. Runs until Dec. 23 in the Maclab Theatre, Citadel Theatre complex, 9828 – 101A Ave. For tickets and details, visit: www.citadeltheatre.com or phone 780-425-1820.
