It’s that time again when Dash Riprock clears out the winter cobwebs with a benefit concert for the Alberta Diabetes Foundation.
The eight-piece classic rock band is turning its attention to Spring Fling held on Saturday, March 18 at St. Albert Community Hall.
One of St. Albert’s most high profile, hard-driving rock and roll bands, Dash Riprock is celebrated for its tight musicianship, robust vocalists, high-energy shows and songs that are sung with nostalgia and whimsy.
Part of the band’s success in amassing a loyal following is their multi-layered sound explored by three main vocalists Fred Miller, Kasara Jaxson and Crystal Hanson.
Opening for Dash Riprock is roots musician Matthew Potter.
“He’s opened for us every time,” said Dash Riprock founder Michael Cearns who was also instrumental in launching Spring Fling.
“Matthew should be playing at the Edmonton Folk Fest. He’s that good. There’s a new vein of roots musicians in the style of Texas roots musician Shakey Graves and he’s part of it. Matthew also plays the lap slide guitar.”
Last year Spring Fling raised $5,000. The funds were directed to St. Albert Cosmopolitan Club who in turn sent the majority to the diabetes foundation. A smaller portion was kept in St. Albert and parceled for school bursaries and small projects.
“The majority of people that attend the event are from St. Albert and they know each other. What they told me is that it’s like having a big party where you don’t have to clean up your own house. It’s like seeing old friends and dancing like crazy all night.”
