Grammy Award recipient Judy Collins rolling into the Arden on Wednesday

Judy Collins has worn many hats in her lifetime – singer-songwriter, recording artist, television personality, record producer, author, social activist and UNICEF ambassador.

On Wednesday, April 3, the Grammy Award recipient rolls into St. Albert’s Arden Theatre to perform a compilation of her songs.

Collins rose to prominence in the 1960s as folk singer drawn to political and social activism. Since then, she's released nearly 50 albums.

Her latest single is Dreamers, a song inspired by U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats of DACA deportation. Unable to stand by and watch the social-political deterioration in the United States, Collins composed a song telling a story from the perspective of Maria, a dreamer’s mother.

Originally written as a poem, she initially attempted to create an instrumental accompaniment. At one point her husband suggested she try singing a cappella.

The first time Collins sang it in Seattle in 2018, a long silence filled the auditorium filled by a deafening standing ovation.

Collins' concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $73. Call 780-459-1542 or at www.ticketmaster.ca.
