The City of St. Albert has announced the 2020 International Children's Festival of the Arts has been cancelled as it continues to address COVID-19.

Although the Children's Festival was not slated to open until May 26, the city released a statement Monday that the six-day event is cancelled.

A post on the City of St. Albert Facebook page stated: “In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, and to protect the health, safety and well-being of our patrons and the public, the City of St. Albert has taken thoughtful action based on Alberta Health Services’ recommendations.”

The festival was originally scheduled for May 26 to 31. Festival organizers are planning for next year's event scheduled for June 1 to 6 in 2021, and are rebooking this year’s performers for a future date.

All advance ticket sales will be refunded. Call the Arden Theatre box office at 780-459-1542.
