Lúnasa, one of the world’s hottest Celtic instrumental bands, is coming to the Arden

Lúnasa, one of the world’s hottest Celtic instrumental bands has spent an action-packed, exciting two weeks on the road through the United Kingdom, France and Canada.

This celebrated Irish export is performing a one-off at the Arden Theatre on Saturday, March 30.

The world-renowned five-piece is composed of Kevin Crawford (flutes, whistles), Trevor Hutchinson (double bass), Ed Boyd (guitar), Seán Smyth (fiddle, low whistle) and Cillian Vallely (uilleann pipes, low whistles).

Together they play a melting pot of Celtic music that not only reinforces their collective strengths, but also offers a union of traditional and contemporary.

The instrumental band formed in 1997 taking the name of Lúnasa named after a Lughnasadh, an ancient harvest festival. Since then, the group has sold more than a half-million albums including an impressive catalogue of seven award-winning albums.

In 2018, the band released CAS, its first recording with vocals. The vocalists are Natalie Merchant, Natalie Chapin Carpenter, bluegrass singer Tim O’Brien, blues artist Eric Bibb and Irish folk singer Daoiri Farrell.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $42. Call the Arden box office at 780-459-1542 or at www.ticketmaster.ca.
