Morinville cultural centre, public library close to public

All shows and programs are temporarily suspended
COVID-19

The Town of Morinville has announced the temporary closure of the Morinville Community Cultural Centre as a measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

This affects two major professional shows on the mainstage series: Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience on March 21 and Danny Hooper on April 17.

Ryan Telfer, events and culture co-ordinator, stated at the moment no date was set to reopen the facility to the public.

“I am working on rescheduling, but we don’t have the word yet. I’m asking people to hold on to their tickets for now, and we’ll be in touch with what to do,” said Telfer.

Using an insider’s knowledge about ticketing agencies across the world, he noted most are backlogged with ticket holders requesting refunds from concerts, theatre productions, sporting events and numerous other activities. He suggests adopting a wait-and-see approach.

During cancellations, artists stand to lose a great deal of money depending on how their individual contract was written.

“I want to make sure artists are compensated in a fair way, but as an administrator I have to look at the overall situation. Our aim is to reschedule. There is no doubt this (coronavirus) has made a fairly significant impact globally. My goal is to make sure it all happens – maybe in a different way.”

The Morinville Public Library is also closed indefinitely.
