When different genres collaborate to produce a concert, fans could either be disappointed or enjoy the most creative blowout they’ve ever seen.
After selling out Festival Place last year, St. Albert loop master Paul Woida was confident a celebration at the Winspear Centre was his next stop.
Stepping up his game, Woida contacted Top 40 pop singer Mike Ruby and Edmonton rapper/electronic music dance performer Cab’Ral, as joint participants for a Winspear concert on Thursday, Oct. 24.
A student of Grant MacEwan University’s music program, Woida graduated with dual diplomas in composition and drum set.
The local recording artist uses computerized looping technology to perform in-the-moment created pop covers and self-styled originals.
In the past seven years, he’s developed a hardcore fan base excited to hear his mesmerizing creations by simply playing a lone guitar and loop pedal.
Two of his biggest scores were winning the Hot 107 $10,000 Factor Competition and the 2016 Air Miles Detour Big Break which saw him open for celebrity vocalist Meghan Trainor in Nova Scotia.
On the local front he’s garnered tons of support playing at Canada Day, Seven Music Fest and St. Albert Amplify Festival.
But his personality and charm really shone through at the 2016 St. Albert Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts when he snap-chatted the audience while building a song.
However, our hometown boy's real talent is incredible musicianship, catchy hooks and emotive vocals.
