Re: "We must question city's process in hiring of new fire chief," Letters, The Gazette, Oct. 13.

When a municipality sets out to fill a vacancy for such an important position as the fire chief, it is paramount that appropriate processes are followed for transparency and confidence.

Prior to the posting for the fire chief was a posting for two deputy fire chiefs in St. Albert as well.

St. Albert fire senior leadership has been mired in conflict for at least the last term of this current city council. How does a perceived patronage appointment of a chief who has no experience with a full-time career department do anything to solve the current problems and lack of confidence in leadership in emergency services?

Furthermore, how does a city council, with oversight and direction to its senior city administration, let this occur without question?
