LETTER: Canada no longer served by federal politics

Re: "Awakening a silent generation," Column, The Gazette, Aug. 4.

A brilliant column by Alan Murdock. It is with great sadness that I believe Canada is no longer served by federal politics.

Unequivocally there is an impending collapse looming for the federation and we soon will, or should be, replaced by republics. The latter will look after us better than our current regime in Ottawa.

To see our prime minister continually pander for votes by going along with every minority group in the country — particularly when it comes to something of a nationwide interest and a betterment for society as a whole — is disheartening. Sadly, it already appears the voting is done in the East. The Liberals will be re-elected, and again the West means nothing to Canada. It will make for another four years of incompetence.

The whole of North America is being led by lame ducks, and the deterioration of these once magnificent nations is evident.

Yes, I am part of that silent generation. Canada has become a confederation of separate entities and not a unified country, whatsoever. Quebec is given an autonomous entity over all other provinces.

It does not take a person with a PhD to predict or know that our identity as a country must be funded by a functioning and productive society — not debt. Just look at the debt projection for Canada, but feel safe with the knowledge our prime minister said it will take care of itself. Sad words, indeed.
