LETTER: Nally seems clueless on fees, riders that make up most of natural gas bill

Re: "Nally lauds electricity rebate as prices climb," The Gazette, March 23.

How can the associate minister of natural gas not understand how Albertans are billed for their consumption of natural gas? In his comments to The Gazette, MLA Dale Nally implies that we can all get our costs under control by locking into a fixed-rate plan. It's almost like Dale is willfully clueless about the massive increase to the endless fees and riders that his government approves while also removing caps placed on them.

The cost of natural gas has been consistently 30 per cent or less of the total bill I've received since the UCP started messing with this industry's ability to put profits over Albertans early in their tenure. I, like most Albertans, have zero control over the other 70 per cent of that bill — the same 70 per cent of my bill that keeps escalating, uncontrolled. How could Dale not know this? I'd argue it is on purpose.

If Morinville-St. Albert voters needed any further evidence of exactly who Dale represents, I would encourage them to look up Dale's most common talking points and then directly link them back to the corporate leaders who originally said them.

From Dow Chemical to ATCO, Dale doesn't miss a beat promoting corporate interests to ensure us average Albertans continue to add to their CEO bonuses and share buy-back plans via pandemic profiteering and corporate socialism. I have yet to hear a quote from my MLA that puts his constituents' interests first. Why is that? Well, it is simple really. The top priority of any Kenney hand-picked MLA is to do what they are told while turning off independent thoughts. Few have demonstrated they are more adept at accomplishing this prerequisite to UCP governance than Dale Nally.

H. Ryerse, St. Albert
