LETTER: Please follow city's bylaws while out enjoying our community

'Please be safe and courteous when out driving, cycling, or on foot, and follow the bylaws.'

I was really excited to see so many people out using the trails and roads on a beautiful summer Saturday.

I noticed cyclists using bells to warn pedestrians; was thanked for keeping my dog and toddler safely to one side by a polite gentleman passing us on his bike; and watched parents hard at work pulling their kids behind them up a steep hill, staying off the narrow sidewalk while car traffic patiently followed and switched lanes to get around — all good things.

However, I also watched a pair of cyclists use a controlled crosswalk without dismounting; a helmet-less father cycling with his toddler strapped to his chest; and a pair of road bikers weave through a crowd of parents and small children by the soccer fields without giving way (your bells were appreciated, but please dismount next time).

Please be safe and courteous when out driving, cycling, or on foot, and follow the bylaws — there aren’t many and they’re easy to find on the City of St. Albert’s website.
