As we approach a new school year, I would ask the powers that be to please consider carefully what requests they make for students school supply lists and what is essentially necessary for each student to use.
I have watched with horror as, year after year, these lists have grown larger and larger. The cost has gotten more and more expensive, and at the end of the year many items return home barely used, and in some instances, not even opened!
If we can't be cognizant of the environmental impact, then perhaps we could at least consider the financial burden this places on less fortunate families.
