LETTER: Province can afford to give medical professionals a raise

"I hope the provincial government is ashamed of themselves over their recent decision."

Alberta's finances are in bad shape due to the pandemic. I think Albertans are all aware of this, however I am sure the finances of the province could and would survive if the medical professionals, in particular the nurses, received a small increase rather than a cut — maybe even a small bonus as a thank you for all their hard work.

Here is the part that is irritating: almost at the same time as the decision was out to cut nursing salaries, the United Conservative Party hired several new associate ministers.

Doesn't the province understand that they are actually working for the people of Alberta? Maybe they should do some listening for a change.

I hope the provincial government is ashamed of themselves over their recent decision. These medical professionals gave up their own families for more than a year to help look after and save many Albertans during this pandemic, and the province has the audacity to say thank you by cutting their salaries ... disgusting.

Shame on the UCP government.
