LETTER: Road clearing, sanding, an epic fail with city's first snowfall

'I was born and raised in St. Albert, and it was St. Albert's pride that our snow trucks were the first ones out. Now they are non-existent.'

I feel this new government has had an epic fail in the first snowfall. I have snow tires and I got stuck on the McKenney hill. The St. Albert Transit bus got stuck as well as several other vehicles.

I was, thankfully, pushed by two good men and had to turn down Liberton, as someone got stuck further up the hill ahead of me. I had to drive down Liberton to Giroux because at the Tim Hortons intersection I almost got stuck again.

Driving down Dawson, I saw a second St. Albert Transit bus stuck turning into a crescent. That's two buses that got stuck!

The fact that whoever is running the show doesn't realize you sand and clear the snow should not be running things. I was born and raised in St. Albert, and it was St. Albert's pride that our snow trucks were the first ones out. Now they are non-existent.

The city makes a big production talking about safety and painting yellow sidewalks in a place that has snow covering it for eight months of the year, yet doesn't cover the most important thing: driver safety.

There's no sense having newfangled sidewalks when we can't stop for them because the streets are ice. I'm completely and utterly disgusted.

Tanya Mackie, St. Albert
