LETTER: Roundabouts don't seem to be solving traffic problems

'I really don’t think much thought was put into this entire roundabout idea.'

A month ago, Villeneuve Road was closed at Walmart for construction of a roundabout, which I really wonder if we need at this time.

Well, it has been a month since the closure and really not much has happened except a little dirt removal. This four-month project (weather permitting) looks like a six-month one at the moment.

Instead of maybe finishing the Ray Gibbon extension up to Highway 2 north of Costco first, the city closes the road and all the large tractor trailers either must take St. Albert Trail or detour on to Giroux Road or even McKenney Avenue to get to Highway 2 to go north of the city.

I don’t think that Giroux or McKenney were ever built to handle these types of vehicles with the weights they carry, and they must go past a school and mainly residential areas. I really don’t think much thought was put into this entire roundabout idea.
