LETTER: Trudeau's flight plan doesn't take climate emergency into account

'For the prime minister, a price on carbon doesn’t register on his financials. For most of us, his increase in our cost of living does affect the way we manage our needs and our wants.'

If you were to go to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's itinerary for April 12, 2022, it notes he’s in Laval, Quebec, for the day promoting his budget.

At the end of the day, the itinerary says, “personal, in Whistler, B.C.”

The prime minister was in Edmonton April 11. He flew to Laval and back across the country for a personal ski vacation in Whistler, B.C.

This is the same prime minister who declared a climate emergency. This is the same prime minister who raised the price of gas and heating on us on April 1.

My concern is the media and its silence on issues like this. Why isn’t the media asking the prime minister or PMO about such blatant hypocrisy? He’s rich. For the prime minister, a price on carbon doesn’t register on his financials. For most of us, his increase in our cost of living does affect the way we manage our needs and our wants.

What is the media going to do for me (and many like me) to hold our prime minister to account? How does he get away with this ongoing, continuous hypocrisy since the day he became prime minister?

Rob Rheaume, St. Albert
