LETTER: When will Ray Gibbon be back up to speed?

How is it that we have to slow traffic for work being done on a new road some distance from the existing roadway?

I’d like to know if the city has plans to enable the resumption of a 70km/h speed limit on Ray Gibbon Drive this winter.

I presume the majority of work will be complete soon for this year. How is it that the City of Edmonton can add barriers to Calgary Trail or Anthony Henday to allow workers to safely add another lane directly alongside active traffic that is not slowed down, but we have to slow traffic for work being done on a new road some distance from the existing roadway?

I am fully in favour of worker safety, by the way. I slow down directly to the required speed regardless of the hour, presence of workers, or pressure of drivers behind me. I simply feel we can be pragmatic on when reduced speed limits do need to be in place.
