St. Albertans will once again have a chance to win a million-dollar home in their community while helping out a critical charity for the region's children.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Dream Home Lottery is returning to St. Albert for the sixth year in a row and showcasing a $1.3-million Erin Ridge North home for the organization's 40th lottery.

The grand prize comes with $100,000 cash, the home comes fully furnished and the prize also includes the lot, GST and landscaping.

Gloria Lawrence, dream home co-ordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area, said the dream home lottery is the organization's biggest fundraising event of the year.

“Our goal this year is to raise $1 million and the funds from this lottery are super important to our agency. This is our largest annual fundraiser and we serve over 5,000 children and youth,” Lawrence said.

The organization has 15 clubs across the region and runs programming in schools.

The money raised will go toward running after-school programs and mentorship programs.

“That can be mentoring in the community, in school mentoring and corporate mentoring,” Lawrence said.

The organization also runs club programs, which includes sport programs and cooking programs.

“When it comes down to it, we're just trying to give our kids a safe place to be and also helping them with life skills and having people around them that are supporting them to help make good life choices,” Lawrence said.

She noted the home has many unique features. The home is 3,592 square feet with four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

“I think the builder was inspired by that farmhouse look, but when you go through the home, it really has this very almost modern traditional feel. There's beautiful archways, (the builder) used black window frames, tall 14-feet ceilings with custom wood beams,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence said one of the things that inspired the design and layout of the Veneto Custom Homes build is gathering at the dining room table.

“They really wanted that to be one of the focal points of the home, so there's this very large, gorgeous dining room table and the open concept main floor,” she said.

The home also has a three-season room with a fireplace, so families can enjoy the sunshine almost all year round.

There is a limestone fireplace along with a theatre room and wet bar in the basement.

The home has a unique feature in the master bathroom with the back wall of the shower being a custom art piece by Alex Turco.

“It's actually a piece of plexiglas and it's custom made. It looks like a geode pattern and it’s quite gorgeous. A lot of people are commenting how unique it is,” Lawrence said.

On top of winning the main prize, the organization has several early bird draws for $40,000, the first one with a purchase-by date of Jan. 22 and a draw date of March 6. The second draw has a purchase-by date of March 28 and a draw date of April 9.

The organization is also running a 50/50 draw with the jackpot currently sitting at $600,000.

The home is located on 32 Easton Close, with a map to the location online. To purchase tickets or to learn more about the home or contests, visit the website bigbrothershomelottery.org.
