Car smashes into local church

A pastor at Victory Life Church got an unwelcome surprise this week when a car drove right into the building, destroying his office.

No one was hurt in the startling crash that demolished the church pastor’s office in the building on McKenney Avenue. The church will remain open for services at Christmas.

Pastor Scott Debrecen said he is just thankful no one was hurt and is taking it in stride.

“We have divine protection here, thankfully nobody was hurt. It is only building damage.”

The vehicle smashed into the building around 5 p.m. on Wednesday and pushed right through Debrecen’s office, moving furniture against the wall and leaving a terrible mess.

Debrecen said it amounts to an unwanted and unnecessary renovation.

“We have a new drive-thru confessional now.”

Continuing to look on the bright side of the incident, Debrecen said if it had happened on any other day he likely would have been sitting at his desk when the vehicle came through.

“Thankfully, I had just left because otherwise I would have been smashed in with everything else.”

Debrecen said the office windows were boarded up and the office was put back in order as best as they could. Since the car only struck his office the church’s services will be unaffected, he said.

The pastor noted there are typically a lot of people walking past his office at that time of day, so it really is a miracle no one was hurt.

Const. Janice Schoepp said the police are still investigating the accident and have not laid any charges at this time.
