Vader back in court

Travis Vader was back in court last week for offences he committed in May 2016 while he was on trial for the double murder of St. Albert residents Marie and Lyle McCann. The trial was slated to run from Tuesday to Friday last week, but on Thursday afternoon Vader pleaded guilty to taking methamphetamine and being in possession of a stolen truck. Vader was handed a one-month and three-month sentence for the two guilty pleas, which he will serve at the same time as his life sentence. In January, Vader was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in the deaths of the McCanns. His lawyers have filed an appeal for the conviction and have asked for an acquittal or a stay of proceedings. The new convictions on Vader’s record would influence his bail application during the appeal process.

Murder suspect makes appearance

The woman who is accused of killing a St. Albert senior made an appearance in court on Monday. Beryl Musila, 28, appeared in the St. Albert Provincial Court by CCTV on Monday and had her matter put over until Sept. 25 so her lawyer could review disclosure. Musila has not spoken to bail yet. Musila has been charged with first-degree murder and indignity to human remains in the death of 75-year-old Ron Worsfold. Worsfold went missing on Friday, June 7 and investigators found his body on Sunday, June 9 in a rural area of Parkland County. This was Musila’s sixth appearance in court. She made her first appearance in a Sherwood Park court on Wednesday July 12.

Man accused of bank robberies

An Edmonton man charged in connection with an armed bank robbery in St. Albert made another appearance in court. Perry James Marsh, 55, made his seventh appearance in court via CCTV on Monday morning in St. Albert. Marsh had his matter put over one more week to Sept. 18 because his case was close to a resolution. Just after 12:30 p.m. on May 1, St. Albert RCMP responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Bank of Montreal on Hebert Road. A lone man dressed in dark clothing entered the bank with a firearm and left with an undisclosed amount of money. On May 10, 2017 Marsh was arrested and charged with robbery, using a firearm in commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime. Nobody was injured during the robbery.
