COVID-19 cases continue to rise in St. Albert

On Wednesday, new provincial numbers showed 13 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the past 24 hours in the city.

St. Albert continues to have its highest case counts for COVID-19 so far with 158 people currently diagnosed with the virus.

On Wednesday, new provincial numbers showed 13 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the past 24 hours in the city, with four more people recovering from the virus.

Sturgeon County has 52 active cases of COVID-19 while Morinville has 21 active cases.

On Wednesday, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced 732 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the past 24 hours across the province with Alberta Health Services gearing up to expand Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and hospital space in preparation for a continuing surge of COVID-19 cases.

“This is deadly serious,” Hinshaw said.

“As individuals, I can't emphasize enough how important it is to stay home and get tested.”

Overnight, 11 more people provincewide have died from the virus, with 287 people in the hospital and 57 of them in the ICU, out of the available 70 current available beds.

The province has conducted 13,000 tests in the past 24 hours and the current positivity rate in the province is 5.5 per cent.

Overall, there are 10,057 active cases in the province

“We are all so tired right now and the stakes are so very high,” Hinshaw said.
