Edmonton man charged with child luring, sexual assault in Morinville back in court in September

Accused allegedly used the Snapchat name “islandsauce0129” or “monked.ruffy”

An Edmonton man facing child luring, sexual assault, and pornography charges stemming from incidents in Morinville and Edmonton will be back in court in September.

Imesh Ratnayake, 21, of Edmonton, has been charged with sexual assault; sexual interference; luring a child; making child pornography; transmitting child pornography; possessing child pornography; obtaining sexual service for consideration from persons under 18; invitation to sexual touching; distributing of intimate images; and extortion.

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), in a statement released on July 27, said an Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit investigation found Ratnayake allegedly met up with “youth he met online” using the Snapchat name “islandsauce0129” or “monked.ruffy” to make initial contact.

The investigation into Ratnayake began in June. He was arrested on July 7, 2022. Both the Morinville RCMP and the Zebra Centre for Child Protection assisted with the investigation.

There are six alleged victims so far, the youngest of whom is 11, and ICE believes there are more, according to the ALERT statement.

ICE officials are "looking to identify and speak with potential victims and witnesses."

Ratnayake appeared in Morinville Provincial Court on Aug. 4. The case was adjourned for initial disclosure and is set to return to Morinville court Sept. 1.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call ICE at 780-509-3363.
