An Edmonton man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of Ryan Moffat, 37, of Gibbons earlier this month.

RCMP said Tuesday that Kalum Auger, 28, was arrested March 19 in relation to the shooting and remains in custody.

The night of March 11, Redwater RCMP attended the Redwater hospital on reports that two males had been shot. The hospital was closed to the public while RCMP investigated, but reopened by morning. Moffat succumbed to his injuries, while the second man remains in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP said March 23 that the investigation determined the shooting took place at a Sturgeon County residence.

The case is being handled by the RCMP's Major Crimes Unit.

RCMP said at the time that the shooting is believed to have been a targeted incident.

Auger is due to appear in Fort Saskatchewan court on March 25.
