Edmonton man faces charges following fatal crash in Sturgeon County

An Edmonton man is facing charges after a woman died and a child was injured in a two-vehicle collision in Sturgeon County on Sunday night.

James Dean Novosell, 37, of Edmonton has been charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death, one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one count of impaired driving causing death, and one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm, RCMP said in a release. 

Morinville RCMP responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 28 and Sturgeon Road. A woman who was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee died from injuries shortly after the collision. 

A child passenger in the Jeep was also injured in the crash and airlifted to Stollery Children’s Hospital by STARS air ambulance. The child is currently in stable condition, said Cpl. Sheldon Robb of Morinville RCMP. 

Novosell, who was driving a Ford F-150, has been remanded into custody and did not speak to bail. He is set to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 9:30 a.m.
