Election Notes: Mandel visits St. Albert; Renaud apologizes; Advance voting underway

Renaud apologizes

St. Albert NDP candidate Marie Renaud has issued an apology after a Facebook post from her trivializing sexual assault in prison surfaced Monday.

The post, which was made in 2014, was later deleted by Renaud.

"I am just unequivocally sorry," Renaud said.

The MLA-hopeful said she learned her lesson and had to call her kids to tell them about the post. She said they lectured her about how her words matter and not to laugh at something that is harmful to others.

"They're 100 per cent right. It's not funny and it was dumb," Renaud said.

"It was stupid and I learned a lesson, and when you make a mistake you just try to be better."

The post was unearthed by Shaping Alberta's Future, a registered third-party advertiser which supports the UCP.

Mandel visits the city
