Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools superintendent David Keohane is retiring at the end of this school year.

On Tuesday night during the school division's board meeting, Keohane made the announcement. Keohane has spent 37 years in Catholic education, where he worked as a teacher, consultant, vice-principal, principal, deputy superintendent and chief superintendent.

“I am most appreciative of the confidence that the Board has placed in me in supporting my work for the school division. I have been honoured on a daily basis to have witnessed the dedicated and talented contributions of our division, principal, teacher and support staff leaders who make a positive difference in our students’ lives,” Keohane said.

Keohane has served as a chief superintendent provincially for 19 years in three jurisdictions and will be completing 11 years of service with Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools.

“Mr. Keohane has been a critical leadership component in furthering the vision and goals of our division. His recognition on provincial, national and international levels has clearly indicated why our division is a ‘lighthouse jurisdiction’ for so many,” Joe Becigneul, GSACRD board chair, said.

Keohane will be ending his term as superintendent at the end of the school year and the board will address succession planning over the next few weeks.
