The Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation's 25th anniversary gala begins an ambitious year of fundraising. The foundation's 2017 goal is to raise $1 million for critical technology and diagnostic equipment for the Endoscopy Department.
Last year 600 people attended the January Friend Raiser and foundation executive director Katrina Black is hopeful that the same number of people will make the event a priority this year.
The Jan. 28 gala will be held at the Enjoy Centre. Tickets are $175. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a champagne reception and will be followed at 7 p.m. by a three-course dinner.
Black is hopeful that at least $300,000 is raised in this one-night event for the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation.
“Everything is top drawer. We have major sponsors for the reception, the dinner and the dance. So those who attend will know at least 50 per cent of their ticket goes towards the hospital foundation. Everyone who walks in the door will make a difference,” Black said.
Danny Hooper will be the MC for the gala as well as for the silent and live auction. One of the key fundraisers for the evening will be the Cash Call, with all funds this year specifically going towards the endoscopy project.
“Last year the Cash Call raised $70,000,” Black said.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Naseem Hoque, the site lead for gastroenterology at the Sturgeon hospital.
The Endoscopy Enhancement Program will shorten the wait time for screening procedures, Black said.
“We have a growing and aging community. Last year the Sturgeon hospital did more than 2,200 procedures, including colonoscopies. We hope with new enhanced equipment, we can significantly reduce the wait time for those procedures,” she said.
Because the gala commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation, past board members have been invited.
“We are hopeful past board members and every foundation chair since 1992 will attend. This will be a reunion to celebrate the significant success of the foundation,” Black said.
“It's hard to pinpoint the biggest fundraising success over 25 years. We have been blessed with a community that makes donating to the hospital a priority. Everyone who has supported the foundation over the years has made a difference. It's many of us working together to assist the Sturgeon hospital in achieving a gold standard of patient care,” Black said.
