At 6 p.m. tonight Premier Jason Kenney, Minister of Health Tyler Shandro, and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide an update on COVID-19 and the ongoing work to protect public health.
The announcement is coming during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that has Alberta seeing the highest rates of infection in the country, along with hospitals and intensive-care units over capacity.
On Tuesday, Alberta reported 1,434 new cases and nine deaths.
The fourth wave began in the province when the government made the move to remove almost all restrictions for their "Open for Summer" plan. At the time the province had an average of 57 new cases a day.
One month later, On Aug. 1, the province was averaging 178 new cases per day, and by Sept. 1 the number skyrocketed to 1,082.
