A St. Albert couple died Sunday when their motorcycle collided with a pickup truck outside Stony Plain.
Diane Rose, 48 and Edward Peter Rensch, 54 were travelling northbound on Highway 33 on a Harley Davidson motorcycle when a southbound pickup truck attempted to turn east on Township Road 564.
The pair was travelling on the highway around 1:30 p.m.
Sgt. Jim Martin with the Stony Plain RCMP said it appears as the pick-up turned east, it cut across the path of the motorcycle.
Emergency crews responded to the call within minutes but pronounced Rensch dead at the scene. He had been driving the motorcycle.
His wife, Diane was rushed to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance, but died a short time later at an Edmonton hospital.
Martin said both Rensch and his wife were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The pick-up truck driver was not injured. While the investigation is ongoing, weather and alcohol have both been ruled out as factors in the crash.
Martin said late Tuesday that the investigation was ongoing and police had not made any further determinations about what caused the crash.
“There are no further updates.”
The couple left behind two grown sons who attended school in St. Albert.
A service has been planned for this Friday at the North Pointe Community Church in Edmonton at 11 a.m.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers a memorial donation be made to STARS Air Ambulance at their Edmonton airport base.
