Ammar’s Moosehead Open Stage started off as a funky blues jam. But lately hosts Mark Ammar and Noel (Big Cat) Mackenzie have diversified the talent.

This coming Tuesday the duo is bringing in a couple of fresh faces — Fort Saskatchewan’s Joe Nolan and Morinville’s Christian Maslyk.

Nolan, a busker at the St. Albert’s Farmers’ Market for several years, is developing some strong roots in the industry. Last year he released his first CD, Pocket Full of Dreams, an ode to family and friends. And in one track, The World is Half Asleep, the young folk singer displayed his mettle in crusading for society’s most vulnerable.

“This kid wowed me the first time I saw him playing at market. He would sit there for hours playing his acoustic guitar and singing solo,” says Ammar.

On a national scale, Nolan has placed in the Top 50 for Canadian Idol and has performed with the likes of Ellen McElwaine, Samantha Schultz and Mike Lent.

One of his proudest accomplishments was receiving one of three Galaxie Rising Star Awards at the Edmonton Folk Festival last year.

“We have also invited a good friend of Joe’s, Christian Maslyk, from the band Louis on 3 to give us his electric guitar flavourings, and lead vocals.”

The jam is at LB’s Pub on 23 Akins Drive on Tuesday starting at 9 p.m. No cover.
