If you missed the spectacular performance of the Stereos last Monday at the Starlite Room, rest easy. Capital Ex just announced the local fivesome will open for Marianas Trench on July 21 at the ED Fest stage.
The high-energy outdoor stage is free and, if the Starlite gig is an indication of popularity, with fans wrapped around the block, this show will be standing room only.
Stereos became an overnight sensation after appearing on MuchMusic’s band competition DisBand. They landed a recording deal with Universal Canada, and their first single Summer Girl skyrocketed to No. 1 on iTunes selling more than 10,000 downloads. They are the first local band to reach the iTunes top charts.
As Pat Kordyback, lead singer and a Bellerose high graduate, says, “It could all end tomorrow. We know that. We’re just happy to be here.”

Given the artistry of designer fashions sold at Meese Clothing, it is natural for founders Tressa Heckbert and Evan Sterling to take part in the third annual Love Those Clothes You Wear fundraiser on June 27 at 7 p.m.
Staged during The Works Art and Design Festival, it is in support of the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists’ (SNAP) educational programs.
Meese is donating several pieces that will be part of a flashy fashion parade before they are auctioned to the highest bidder. This year organizers have included screening on site including a “print your panties” corner. “We are definitely into print work as we do a lot of screening here,” said Sterling.

Edmonton’s Chorale Saint-Jean added more sheen to its impressive reputation when in July 2008 they were the only choir outside of Quebec invited to the 400th anniversary celebrations.
For that occasion the National Film Board created Le choeur d’une culture (Together in Harmony), a 27-minute documentary that details the visit.
St. Albert musical ambassadors from Chorale Saint-Jean included Miriam Moisan, Ted Ritzen, Caitlin Huizinga, Tristan Pasek, Denise Moulin-Pasek and Daniel and Julianna Damer.
The film will be screened at Campus Saint-Jean auditorium in a double bill with Ces voix oubliés (Those Forgotten Voices), a documentary of a small choir with mental disabilities and the obstacles they have overcome.
The campus is at 8406 rue Marie-Anne-Gaboury (91st Street.) Admission is free.
Real Fagnan and Robbie Suter are dropping by Ammar’s open jam this coming Tuesday at LB’s Pub for a night of gritty blues. Fagnan has made his mark playing with notable country acts like Michelle Wright, Loretta Lynn and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Suter, frontman for the rock/alternative/blues band Motive Unknown, has been influenced by a variety of musical styles from Def Leppard and Motley Crue to B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
