A Fort Saskatchewan man is facing charges after St. Albert RCMP officers responded to a security company's report of someone trying to open vehicle doors and crawling underneath vehicles.

On Friday, Jan. 17, at around 1:30 a.m., RCMP responded to the call at 190 Carleton Drive. While the RCMP were on their way, the security company updated them to let them know the man was leaving the area and getting into an escape vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle was found and the occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

The RCMP searched the vehicle and found several tools commonly used in catalytic converter thefts, including reciprocating saws with multiple blades, a headlamp and grabbing tools. A small quantity of drugs was also located in the vehicle.

Skyler Morneau, 31, of Fort Saskatchewan was charged with possession of break-in instruments, drug possession, mischief and for an outstanding warrant for fraud-related offences.

Morneau was released on bail and is expected to be back in court Feb. 3 at the St. Albert Provincial Courthouse.

Property crime and crime reduction remains a priority for St. Albert RCMP. Residents are reminded to follow the #9PM Routine, as many property crimes can be avoided with proper precautions.

If anyone has information regarding any crime, they are asked to contact the St. Albert RCMP Detachment at 780-458-7700 or their local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the "P3 Tips" app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
