Man arrested in St. Albert for Edmonton robberies

A man suspected of robbing four pharmacies in the Edmonton area over the last two years was arrested in St. Albert over the weekend.

A man suspected of robbing four pharmacies in the Edmonton area over the past two years was arrested in St. Albert over the weekend.

The Edmonton Police Service Robbery Section has arrested and charged a 43-year-old male in connection with a series of armed robberies that occurred in 2018 and 2019.

The Edmonton man was arrested Sunday with the assistance of the RCMP.

The police were investigating the most recent robbery, which took place March 16, when they received a tip the suspect was in a St. Albert motel.

Between May 2018 and March 2019, four robberies occurred predominantly at Edmonton pharmacies, where it was reported that a male suspect allegedly used a handgun to force staff to the floor while he stole pharmaceuticals.

Edmonton police and RCMP members executed a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and motel room, locating stolen items, an imitation firearm (a BB gun) and a large quantity of narcotics.

Ronald Jason Fitzgerald has been charged with four counts of robbery, four counts of using an imitation firearm and four counts of disguise with intent.

The suspect is believed to be connected to similar robberies from 2018 and 2019. Police continue to investigate.
