The Edmonton Police Service arrested and charged a 43-year-old man on Aug. 10 with six counts of sexual assaults against women in northwest Edmonton and St. Albert.

Michael Todd Schartner has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm and unlawful possession of body armour.

Schartner was released after a bail hearing.

From April to June 2020, police received reports of a man singling out women and breaking eggs on their heads. In some instances, he would grope the women; in one instance, it was reported he wore what appeared to be rubber breasts on top of his clothing.

EPS spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout said the weapon referenced in the sexual assault charge was the egg. Police laid other firearms-related charges as a result of a search warrant.

In April, a St. Albert resident was on her way back home from an evening jog when she was assaulted by a man on Ash Crescent. The man grabbed her and broke an egg over her head. He then ran away, heading west on Arlington, when the woman pulled out her cell phone to call police.

St. Albert RCMP tried to track him down with help from police dogs but could not locate the suspect.

Police believe additional assaults may have taken place and are asking anyone who was targeted or has information to call 780-423-4567.

Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
