Man found dead after Sturgeon County fire was murdered: police

The death of a man found after a fire at an oil lease site in Sturgeon County last week has been deemed a homicide by police.

In a Dec. 1 press release, Edmonton Police Services confirmed Cody Sinclair, 30, who was reported missing on Nov. 18, died by homicide.

The homicide was confirmed after an autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office on Nov. 24.

“The cause of death is being withheld for investigative purposes,” EPS said in the press release.

It was initially reported that Sinclair was last seen after being released from the Royal Alexandra Hospital on Nov. 8 at about 10:30 p.m.

Later, investigators learned Sinclair was also seen on Nov. 9 in the Prince Charles neighbourhood in Edmonton.

“Police have no other evidence of life since this date,” said EPS.

On Nov. 22, Morinville RCMP were called to a fire at an oil lease site in the area of Township Road 580 between Range Road 243 and Range Road 244. The RCMP found human remains after extinguishing the fire.

EPS homicide section is now leading the investigation and detectives are asking anyone with information about Sinclair to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
