Nine new cases of COVID-19 reported in St. Albert on Tuesday

The city now has 113 active COVID-19 cases.

St. Albert added another nine COVID-19 cases overnight while six more people recovered, bringing the total active cases in the city to 113. 

Sturgeon County reported three new cases and four recoveries, with active cases dropping to 39 Tuesday from 40 Monday.

Morinville held steady at 14 active cases. 

On Tuesday, the COVID-related deaths of another three people were reported to Alberta Health, bringing the amount of people who have died in the province to 2,001 since the pandemic began. The province also reported 931 new COVID-19 cases in total, 676 of which were variants of concern. There were 9,100 tests run, for a positivity rate of 10.2 per cent.

Across Alberta, 413 schools or 17 per cent have active alerts or outbreaks. 

There are currently 328 people in the hospital, with 76 of them in intensive care, which Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw described as a sharp increase. 

“It's natural to be frustrated and to be sick and tired of this pandemic,” Hinshaw said.

So far, 734,000 doses of vaccine have been distributed in the province. 

The province has 10,809 active cases of COVID-19.
