One dead in crash in Sturgeon County

The cause of the collision is under investigation, however RCMP said Monday highways in the area are icy due to the recent rainfall.

One person is dead after a collision between an SUV and a semi-tractor near Alcomdale in Sturgeon County this afternoon.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Morinville RCMP were called to a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 44, between Township Road 570 and Township Road 571, about 40 kilometres northwest of St. Albert, RCMP said in a statement.

Traffic is being diverted around the collision scene and is expected to continue for several hours, RCMP said.

The RCMP collision analyst is at the scene investigating and the next-of-kin notification is pending, according to the statement.

RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the area of the collision and to slow down and drive to the road conditions they encounter.
