One more St. Albert resident has died from COVID: province

Province-wide COVID cases have dropped, while hospitalizations have increased

Another St. Albert resident has died from COVID-19, according to provincial data released Thursday.

The province's COVID numbers, current from Feb. 2, showed 60 people in the city have died from the virus to date.

Alberta reported Thursday that active COVID cases in St. Albert have dropped from 598 reported earlier this week, to 508 cases today.

Provincial data also showed a drop in active COVID cases in Sturgeon County, with 231 cases Thursday, compared to 253 reported earlier this week. The number of people who have died from COVID in the county remained at 16.

Morinville's active COVID cases dropped by 10 from the 77 reported earlier this week, to 67 cases Thursday. The number of people who have died from the virus in Morinville remained at 14.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased in Alberta to 1,584 people, according to the province's Thursday update, up from the 1,516 people reported on Jan. 30. There are 112 people with COVID in the ICU across the province, up from the 99 reported earlier this week.

Alberta-wide active COVID cases have dropped over the past several days. The province reported 33,879 active cases of the virus on Thursday, down from 37,468.

To date, 3,608 people have died from COVID in Alberta since the beginning of the pandemic.

Provincial data reported on Thursday showed the positivity rate at 36.35 per cent, compared to 36.38 per cent reported earlier in the week.
