Parkland RCMP arrest Sturgeon County man

Gunther Schwarten is charged with three offences
local news

Parkland RCMP worked collaboratively with residents to arrest a man in a suspicious vehicle roaming the streets of Spruce Grove.

On Dec. 5, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Westridge neighbourhood around 3 a.m. The person who contacted the detachment told police the car had been cruising the neighbourhood for about 45 minutes. The vehicle and driver had been seen in previous days.

Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 4, Westridge residents worked with the Parkland detachment to provide a detailed description of the driver. RCMP say they located the driver and found a controlled substance in the vehicle, along with break-in tools and a concealed weapon under the driver's seat.

As a result, police have charged Sturgeon County resident Gunther Schwarten, 34, with possessing break-in instruments, possessing GHB, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He is scheduled to appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on Jan. 6.
