A suspect in a break-in at a local liquor store Sunday night was rounded up and arrested quickly.

Officers responded to the Campbell Liquor Store on Boudreau Road near Campbell Road on Sunday night around 7:45 p.m.

One of the far windows in front of the store had been smashed and there was blood on the windowsill.

Initially concerned the thief might still be inside, RCMP officers surrounded the building and called for a dog unit.

The tactic allowed the RCMP to confirm there was no one inside the store. The dog’s attempt to find the suspect’s trail was unsuccessful.

Officers got a break in the case shortly afterwards, however. Morinville RCMP received a call around 11:30 p.m. about an intoxicated man at the Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centre.

Though very close to the city, the facility is in the jurisdiction of the Morinville RCMP.

When St. Albert officers arrived there were a number of indications the man might have been responsible for the liquor store break-in.

“He was at Poundmaker’s Lodge with two bottles of whiskey, he was bleeding and he was charged,” said Const. Janice Schoepp with the St. Albert RCMP.

Schoepp said after police questioned the man he admitted to the break-in.

The accused is a 23-year-old man from Morinville, but Schoepp did not release his name because the charges against him have not yet been sworn.
