Police seized drugs, cash, cellphones and the truck they came in last week.
Officers in the St. Albert Drug Unit arrested a young man coming out of a fast-food restaurant on June 4 and have charged him with drug trafficking.
Police found $455, two cellphones and a small amount of cocaine after arresting the man. They also seized a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Const. Janice Schoepp said in contrast to other drug arrests officers have made this year, the truck was part of the criminal process in this case.
“He was actually using the vehicle while conducting the criminal activity.”
Provincial and federal legislation both allow police to seize property they believe is being used as part of crime.
Schoepp said the cocaine seized from the young man was not a significant amount, but was not small either.
“It wasn’t a large amount, but it was enough to warrant the trafficking charge.”
She said, unlike in some drug cases, the truck did not have secret compartments.
The truck is now in the possession of a federal government agency that handles seized property. Schoepp said it would be in their possession until the court process runs its course.
She would only say that officers were led to the man based on an ongoing investigation.
Bryan Garry Stephen Giebelhaus, 21, has been charged with one count of cocaine possession for the purposes of trafficking and a second count of possession of the proceeds of crime.
He made a court appearance on Monday and is expected to return to court on June 21.
