Province reports increase in St. Albert COVID cases

Sturgeon County also saw a bump in COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 cases in St. Albert have increased since last week.

There were 35 new COVID cases in the city from July 26 to Aug. 1 compared to 25 the week prior, the province reported today.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people in St. Albert was 50.3 during this same period, an increase from 35.9 reported the week prior.  

There were no new COVID deaths in St. Albert. The total number of people who have died from COVID in St. Albert remains at 88.

Sturgeon County saw an incremental increase in COVID cases. There were eight new cases of the virus in the county from July 26 to Aug. 1. The province reported seven COVID cases the week prior.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people in Sturgeon County was 28.6 during the most recent reporting period. The seven-day case rate per 100,000 was 25.1 the week prior.

There were no new deaths reported in Sturgeon County. The number of residents who have died from the virus remains at 18.

The number of COVID cases reported in Morinville dropped, according to the province.

There were three new COVID cases in Morinville between July 26 and Aug. 1, compared to the eight cases reported by the province the week prior.

Data from the province indicated the seven-day-case rate per 100,000 people was 26.3, compared to the 70.1 reported last week.

The number of people who have died from COVID in Morinville remains at 16.

COVID-19 related hospitalizations jumped by 53 to 702 hospitalizations, current from Aug. 1. The number of Albertans hospitalized the week prior was 649.

Between July 26 and Aug. 1, there were 28 people with COVID in ICU — a slight increase from 26 people in the ICU last week.

Data from the province showed the seven-day average for per-cent positivity rate for COVID was 22.3. On July 20, the province reported a per-cent positivity rate of 23.3.

Eight more Albertans have died from COVID.

The total number of people who have died from the virus is now 4,673.
